St. Theodore House (Galion, Ohio)

St. Theodore House is a monastic skete located in Galion, Ohio. It is a small community for men in the Diocese of Pittsburgh of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and under the authority of Metropolitan Maximos of Pittsburgh and the heavenly patronage of St. Theodore the Studite.

History

The monks of St. Theodore's were originally from nearby St. Gregory Palamas Monastery. In February of 1999, the decision was made with the blessing of Metropolitan Maximos that a portion of the community at St. Gregory's would relocate, allowing for these monks to be more accessible in their ongoing outreach and retreat work.

As is the case of many sketes, the community does not have as extensive a cycle of services as many full monasteries, which allows for a greater flexibility which is needed for the pastoral work done by the monastics of St. Theodore House. This pattern of life is found in many monastic communites in Greece, particularly the "missionary monastics" of St. Michael of Tharri community on Rhodes and in the life of St. Theodore himself.
