Leo VI was co-Emperor of Rome from 6 January 870 to 30 July 886 and on the death of his father, Basil I, ruled as sole Emperor to 11 May 912. Leo VI was very active in codification of Roman law. However, his main contributions to Church history were his dismissal of St. Photios as Patriarch of Constantinople and the Tetragamy schism.
