Article title: english
I like the idea of having a list (with links) of various titles given to the Mother of God; but if I cuold suggest that perhaps it could be given a title that anglophone people would naturally understand? Perhaps 'Titles of the Theotokos'? — edited by Pιsτévο talk complaints at 22:24, January 23, 2008 (PST)
:Hi, I understand your point about 'Anglophone' people understanding it .. however, a lot of the English language is by far based on 'Greek' ... Theotokonymia is a legitimate english expression ... as are all word relating to 'phobia' etc. I think its not too good to deviate away from this word since this is an Encyclopedia for Orthodox not for cultures - though is not "Theotokos" universal as is "panagia" ... These are my thoughts ... I hope that the decision is to maintain this word ..it truly is unique to our Panagia ... Vasiliki 22:29, January 23, 2008 (PST)
:: Theotokonymia is not used in English the same way as panagia and Theotokos is used. I think it would be better to have an English title for the article. I also think the the titles themselves should have the English translation in the list with other languages in parentheses. (The OrthodoxWiki Style Manual is not clear on this, but it should be updated to include English terms. PS, Theotokonymia has never been attempted by anyone in the world (a) in an Encyclopedic manner ... and (b) in English. Should you atttempt to look for a complete list of Panagia's names - you might stumble on one or two ... but they are in Greek and certainly do not have Encyclopedic style material/paragraphs linked. OrthodoxWiki is the first to attempt this in English ... and possibly in any language ... It is exciting and most definately relevant to Orthodoxy ...in my opinion more relevant than complete listings of monasteries (as most Internet sites attempt to do) ...
