Life
The future Bishop Anthony was born in Astrakhan, Russia, as Igor Shamsullayevich Azizov on [[June 18]], 1979. At age 19 he was baptized an Orthodox Christian, and after completing his secular studies entered the theological school of the [[Metropolia of Volgograd|Eparchy of Volgograd]] in 2004, graduating a year later. On [[August 15]], 2005, Igor was [[tonsure|tonsured]] a [[monk]] at the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Astrakhan with the name Anthony, after St. [[Anthony the Great]].
In September 2005 Monk Anthony was ordained to the [[deacon|diaconate]] by [[Archbishop]] [[Jonah (Karpukhin) of Astrakhan and Kamyzyak|Jonah (Karpukhin) of Astrakhan and Enotaevka]]. A month later he was ordained to the [[presbyter|priesthood]], remaining a part of the brotherhood of the Monastery of St. John the Baptist. In March 2013 the [[Holy Synod]] of the Russian Orthodox Church established the Akhtubinsk Eparchy and elected [[Hieromonk]] Anthony as the first ruling bishop of the new eparchy. Several days later Fr. Anthony was elevated to the rank of [[archimandrite]].
On [[May 7]], 2013, Bishop-elect Anthony was consecrated to the episcopacy in the Church of Christ the Savior in Moscow, Russia, by Patriarch Cyril (Gundyayev) of Moscow and All Rus'.
