Bishop Chrysostomos was born on the Greek island of Naxos on [[April 8]], 1927. Having first completed a degree in Law, he graduated from the School of Theology of the University of Athens in 1952. He was [[ordination|ordained]] to the [[deacon|diaconate]] on [[January 18]], 1952, and to the [[priest]]hood on [[December 14]], 1954. On [[December 19]], 1970, he was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated]] bishop of Kyanea. He has been based at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Andrew the Apostle, Kentish Town, London, since 1961.
In 2008 a book edited by Ioannis K. Probonas was published in his honour: ''ΑΓΑΘΟΕΡΓΙΗ: ΤΙΜΗΤΙΚΟΣ ΤΟΜΟΣ ΓΙΑ ΤΟΝ ΕΠΙΣΚΟΠΟ ΚΥΑΝΕΩΝ ΧΡΥΣΟΣΤΟΜΟ ΜΑΥΡΟΓΙΑΝΝΟΠΟΥΛΟ: ΔΙΑΠΡΕΠΗ ΝΑΞΙΟ ΤΗΣ ΔΙΑΣΠΟΡΑΣ.'' The volume features forwards by H.A.H Bartholomew, Patriarch of Constantinople , and the Hegumen of Dyonisiou Monastery on Mount Athos, to which St. Andrew's Cathedral in London has close connections, a number of homilies and letters by H.G. Chrysostomos, and a series of articles by different contributors relating to the history and traditions of Naxos, the island of his birth.
