His Eminence, Archbishop Simeon (Czech: Arcibiskup Simeon, in the world, Radivoj Jakovljević; born Feb 12, 1926, Prague) is a bishop of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia. Since April 9, 2000, he has served as the bishop of Brno and Olomouc. On Feb 12, 2006, his 80th birthday, he was raised to the honor of archbishop. On April 12, 2013, after the resignation of Metropolitan Christopher he was chosen to serve as locum tenens of the metropolitan see, until the election of a new primate can be held.

Biography

His Eminence was born on Feb 12, 1926 to a Serbian father and a Czech mother. He completed high school in Prague and then, in 1945, began to study theology in Charles University in Prague.

From 1949 through 1953, he studied in the Leningrad Theological Academy. From 1954 through 1959, he was an assistant in the department of theology in the Preshove University. He taught Old Testament in the Orthodox theological department in Preshove.

On September 7, 1958, he was married. On Nov 1st of that year, he was ordained to the diaconate and on Dec 25, to the priesthood.

From 1959 through 1998, Fr. Radivoj served as the priest of the parish of St. Vladimir the Great, in Mariánské Lázně.

In 1992, he received his doctorate of theology. On September 12, 1996, his wife reposed in the Lord, leaving him a widower.

On June 1st, 1998, he received monastic tonsure, taking the name Simeon.

Episcopacy

On June 21, 1998, Hieromonk Simeon was consecrated as bishop of Mariánské Lázně, vicar of the Archdiocese of Prague. Two years later, on April 9, 2000, he was appointed as the bishop of the diocese of Brno and Olomouc. Six years later, on his 80th birthday, he was raised to the rank of archbishop.

On April 12, 2013, after the resignation of Met. Christopher, Archbishop Simeon was appointed locum tenens to govern the Church until the election of a new primate.
