Seraphim (Voepel)

Igumen Seraphim (Voepel) is the Deputy Abbot of the Hermitage of the Holy Cross, an English-speaking male monastery in the Eastern American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.

  • 2003: (At this time, Fr Seraphim was already a hieromonk and the superior at the Hermitage.
  • 2008 Oct 14: Hmk Seraphim elevated to Hegumen.
  • 2009: Hermitage of the Holy Cross became an independent monastery. Bp George (who was already both the spiritual father of the monastery and in residence at the monastery) was made abbot; Hegumen Seraphim was made deputy abbot.
  • 2011: Fr Seraphim diagnosed with kidney cancer
  • 2012: Fr Seraphim diagnosed with squamous cell cancer in his right tonsil. Subsided in 2012, reappeared in Oct 2013.
  • 2014: With the financial aid of the Fund For Assistance, Fr Seraphim underwent multiple aggressive rounds of chemotherapy. He returned to serving at Pascha 2014.
  • 2015: With Bp George's transfer to the Australian and New Zealand Diocese, Fr Seraphim to become abbot.
