His Grace, the Very Reverend Savvas (Heimonettos) of Burundi and Rwanda is Bishop of the Diocese of Burundi and Rwanda, part of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

Life

Vasilios Heimonettos was born in 1971 in Rhodes. Vasilios graduated from the Patmios Ecclesiastical Academy and the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens, where he studied in the Department of Social Theology.

In 1990, he was tonsured a monk with the name Savvas at the Monastery of the Archangel Michael in Tharri, Rhodes by Igumen Amphilochios of the monastery. In 1991, he was ordained a deacon and then, in 1993, a priest by Metropolitan Apostolos of Rhodes. At the same time he was elevated to the dignity of archimandrite. During the next eight years Fr. Savvas served in the Metropolis of Rhodes as Hierarchal Vicar of Halki and as a priest in the parishes of the metropolis.
