Proterios (Pavlopoulos) of Diospolis

His Eminence Proterios (Pavlopoulos) of Diospolis (Greek: Προτέριος Παυλόπουλος; 28 July 1946 – 20 October 2021) was a retired hierarch of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

Life

Stylianos Pavlopoulos was born in 1946 in Koronos, Naxos. His collegiate level education was at the Higher Faculty of the University of Athens. His post graduate education continued at Durham University in England.

Stylianos was ordained deacon and priest in 1972, by His Eminence Methodios of Aksum. Over the following years Fr. Proterios served in a number of countries including Ethiopia, Malta, Great Britain, South Africa, and Greece in various positions including chancellor and hierarchal vicar.

He was elected, on February 22, 2001, Metropolitan of the new Metropolis of Dar Es Salaam in eastern Tanzania by the Holy Synod. He was consecrated on March 3, 2001. On October 27, 2004 to the see of Metropolis of Ptolemais. On November 26, 2014, His Eminence retired from active service, being appointed titular Metropolitan of Diospolis.

Metropolitan Proterios rested in the Lord on October 20, 2021.
