Proskomedia (or prothesis) is the divine service celebrated by the priest and deacon prior to the Divine Liturgy during which the bread and wine are prepared for Holy Communion. This service is celebrated at the Table of Oblation (also known as the prothesis table). Proskomedia, when translated to English, means preparation.
