In 1977 the monks decided to become Orthodox. They are received into the Orthodox Church June 19, 1977 and February 1978, they became monks of [[Mount Athos]] Simonos Petra. Returned to France shortly after, Father Placide founded the monastery of St. Anthony the Great, Saint-Laurent-en-Royans (Drôme) in the Vercors, and became the abbot.
He taught patristics at the Orthodox [[St. Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute (Paris, France)|Saint-Serge Sergius Theological Institute]] in Paris.
Father Placide is the founder of the collection "Spiritualité orientale" published by the Abbey of Bellefontaine.
