In search of the authentic sources of Christianity and [[monasticism]], he founded in 1966, with friends who were also monks, a [[monastery]] of the Byzantine Rite in Aubazine in Corrèze.
In 1977, the monks decided to become Orthodox Christians. They are received into the Orthodox Church on [[June 19]], 1977. In February 1978, they became monks at[[Simonopetra Monastery (Athos)|Simonopetra Monastery]] at [[Mount Athos]] . Returning to France shortly thereafter, Fr. Placide established the monastery of St. Anthony the Great at Saint-Laurent-en-Royans (Drôme) in the Vercors, becoming its [[abbot]].
He has taught patristics at the [[St. Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute (Paris, France)|St. Sergius Orthodox Theological Institute]] in Paris.
