His Eminence Panteleimon (Rodopoulos) was the Metropolitan of Tyroloa and Serentium from 1977 to 2019 under the jurisdiction of the Church of Constantinople and Exarch of Thrace. Metr. Panteleimon was noted for his involvement in the Orthodox theological education. He was a member of the Metropolitans - Archbishops of the Throne of the Church of Constantinople.

Life

Evangelos Rodopoulos was born in 1929 in Thrace. After completing his elementary and secondary education, Evangelos continued his theological education at the University of Athens. After his graduation he continued his post-graduate theological studies at the Universities of London and Oxford from 1954 to 1957 and Frankfurt from 1957 to 1958. During the coarse of his education Evangelos was ordained a deacon in 1952, with the name Panteleimon, and a priest in 1954.

Upon completion of his formal education in 1958 Father Panteleimon was appointed chancellor of the Metropolis of Thessalonica and Dean of its Hagia Sophia Cathedral. Also in 1958, Fr. Panteleimon was appointed professor at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens. In 1960, he became a fellow of the Theological School of the University of Thessalonica. While continuing to serve as a lecturer at the University of Thessalonica, Fr. Panteleimon was appointed Dean of Hellenic College and the Theological School of Holy Cross in Boston in 1963, a position he continued to hold until 1966. Fr. Panteleimon continued to associate himself with the theological academia as in 1968 he was elected professor of Canon Law and Pastoral Theology at the Theological School of the University of Thessalonica. He was a member of the Senate of the University of Thessalonica from 1976 to 1977 and, then, Dean of the Theological School during 1977 and 1978. In 1981, Fr. Panteleimon was elected unanimously by the tenured professors of the University of Thessalonica to serve as vice Dean and Dean, serving the appointments until 1983.

In addition to his position as professor at the University of Thessalonica, Fr. Panteleimon took on the duties of dean of the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology, first in Lebanon from 1972 to 1975 and then in Thessalonica from 1975 to 1979, during the time the school was relocated to Thessalonica due to the war in Lebanon.

In 1974, Fr. Panteleimon was elected to the episcopate by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He was consecrated Metropolitan of Tyanon on June 8, 1974. In 1977, he was transferred to the see of the Metropolis of Tyroloa and Serentium. In 1985, Metr, Panteleimon was appointed abbot of Moni Vlatadon monastery in Thessalonica. Metropolitan Panteleimon reposed in the Lord in August 7th, 2019.
