Panteleimon (Rizos) of Thera

His Eminence Panteleimon (Rizos) of Thera, Amorgos and the Isles was the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Thera, Amorgos, and Nisoi under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. He served as metropolitan from 1984 to 2003.

Life

Christos Rizos was born in 1925 in the village of Pyrgos on the island of Tinos in the Greek Cyclades. After completing his studies in theology and philology, he enter the Holy Orders. Christos was ordained a deacon in 1950 with the name Panteleimon and followed by his ordination as a priest in 1958.

Father Panteleimon was elected a bishop and consecrated Metropolitan of Thera, Amorgos and the Isles in 1984. He was succeeded as metropolitan by Epiphanius (Artemis) in 2003.

Metr. Panteleimon reposed on March 1, 2009 at the age of 84.
