The Orthodox Observer is the official publication of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. The publication, currently in a newspaper format and published monthly, is bilingual, in English and Greek. It contains current news and information from the archdiocese, dioceses, parishes, ministries, and organizations within the archdiocese. Additionally, as the official organ of the archdiocese it publishes official encyclicals, statements, and policies.

History

The Orthodox Observer was established by Archbishop Athenagoras in 1934, during the time he was the ruling bishop of the Greek diocese in the United States. The Observer was initially published in a magazine format. The Observer has undergone many changes over the years since its establishment. The periodical began publication in its present newspaper format in 1971. Production of the Observer is now entirely in-house, which has provided savings in costs as well as enabling more timely inclusion of news and articles. The Orthodox Observer is available on the web.
