For some reason or another we've been dropped from Alexa (not in top 100,000 websites it says). According to Google Analytics, traffic continues to be up with 136,533 visits in the past month, and 378,390 pageviews.Search engine traffic accounts for 82.34% of this.

April 5, 2008

It's been a long time since the last statistics update, and there is some good news to report. Over the past month, Google reports 95,615 visitors to orthodoxwiki.org from 170+ countries with 278,356 pageviews. It looks like we had no visitors from Burma, Greenland, Oman, and a bunch of countries in Africa.

Server-side stats for March (more accurate than Google Analytics) in Unique Visits / Total Visits (a visit is a user session rather than a page or server hit):

  • EN (orthodoxwiki.org) - 76327, 126507
  • EN (same as above, except accessed directly as en.orthodoxwiki.org) - 1118 / 2140

EN currently has 2,504 "content pages", RO is up to 823. BG has 326, and EL has 239. Altogether, we have 4,939 registered users.

The top five articles on EN for April so far are: Pascha, The Ladder of Divine Ascent, Benedict of Nursia, Akathist, and Archangel Gabriel.

The top five articles on RO for April so far are: Pricesne, Postul mare, Săptămâna Patimilor, Colivă, Maica Domnului, and Nectarie din Eghina.

Right now, a Google search for "orthodoxwiki" renders 42,500 hits. We are listed on 484 Wikipedia pages. Our Quantcast rank is up to 50,454 and our Compete rank is 78,419 (these measure U.S. traffic only). Our Alexa rank is currently 157,205. comfortably ahead of both OCA.org (231,648), and even GOARCH (190,663). I believe this makes OrthodoxWiki the #1 Orthodox site on the internet.

We need to qualify this claim in a number of ways, though. It looks like Crestinortodox.ro may have us beat, and perhaps some Coptic sites too. Alexa rankings are a little hard to parse here, since they may have an install base. Also, according to other rankings (which badly "misunderestimate" our traffic), Goarch.org and Oca.org still come out ahead. This kind of ranking is not very reliable -- we'd need access to server stats, or at least something like Google Analytics reports from each site to really make a good comparison.

January 26, 2007

It's been awhile since the last entry for stats here. In the news - we've begun using Google Analytics for stats, which is currently reporting an average of 1,448 unique visits a day (for the English-language site only), about 86% being first time guests. According to Alexa, we've just overtaken OCA.org to be the #2 non-Coptic Orthodox site on the internet (traffic rank 195,693) compared to OCA.org's 199,248 and GOARCH's 135,298. Here's a chart, showing OrthodoxWiki's growth over the past three years, overtaking OCA.org (keep in mind a major limitation of Alexa's ranking system, which is that it only counts visitors who have their toolbar installed, so may not be representative and may be geographically or otherwise biased):

October 18, 2006

I decided to see how OrthodoxWiki ranks in different search engines. Here are my results: Google - #52, Yahoo - #110, Ask Jeeves (Ask.com) - #48, MSN Live - Not in top 500.

October 2, 2006

The September results are now complete, and I'm happy to announce a new record high. Last month, we had 36,159 unique visitors (by IP address) and 58,586 unique visits. Our Alexa number is up to 211,003 (a three-month average - that's up 60,739), although our ranking for this past week is 165,026. Alexa also reports that 177 sites link to us. Interestingly, their numbers seem to indicate that the Buglarian site is outpacing the English site - 58% vs. 42%! This could reflect also the Alexa userbase - Alexa rankings depend on their toolbar user base and don't necessarily reflect entire web usage. URLTrends reports an estimate of 6,904 unique incoming links.

As of this writing, there are 7,893 total pages in the database, of which 1,842 pages that are probably "real" content pages. There have been a total of 3,377,708 page views, and 40,339 page edits since the wiki was setup. That comes to 5.11 average edits per page, and 83.73 views per edit. We have 1,967 registered users.

OrthodoxWiki has surpassed the Church of Greece (Ecclesia.gr), whose Alexa ranking rose slightly to 277,143. As far as I can tell, by these standards, we are the #3 site on the Internet for Orthodox Christianity - behind OCA.org and GOARCH.org. I suspect there are some Russian-language websites which would beat us out, but I'm not sure. Let me know if you think I've missed anything.

Arbible points out that if Coptic sites are included, we're up against some stiff competition, e.g.: coptichistory.org (58,569), copticpope.org (65,281), zeitun-eg.org (159,949), and tasbeha.org (193,576).

ROCOR's website (http://www.russianorthodoxchurch.ws) is currently ranked at 258,105. The Moscow Patriarchate (http://www.mospat.ru) is at 419,695

October 27, 2005 Update

OrthodoxWiki is almost a year old!

It's been awhile since we've had an update on OrthodoxWiki's web stats. I was happily suprised to find an exponential increase in traffic.

Through the month of October, we've been averaging about 1200 unique visits a day -- that's how many we used to get in a whole month.

As of today, we've had 12975 unique visitors, averaging 2.23 visits each, and 11.53 pages. About 70% stayed less than two minutes, but more than 10% stuck for more than an hour.

The top 25 countries represented (according to internet reckoning) are (in order): United States, Great Britain, Australia, Unknown, European Union, Canada, China, Germany, Greece, Romania, Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, Egypt, France, Singapore, Yugoslavia, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Japan, Denmark, Russian Federation, New Zealand, and Hong Kong.

More of our referral traffic (excluding search engine traffic) is still coming from blog sites, with various Orthodox link directories making a nice showing.

Other facts you might find interesting:

  • 90% of folks accessing OrthodoxWiki are using some kind of Windows system, with 244 hits coming from "Windows Codename Longhorn." 6.3% are from Mac users, and 3.4% for all others, including 0.8% for Linux.
  • 73.1% of people are using some variation of Internet Explorer, 13.1% Firefox, 1.6% Netscape, 4.9% Mozilla, 4.2% Safari, and 0.7% Opera.
  • Though still a very small number, more hits are beginning to show up from cell phones and PDA's.
  • Monday and Tuesday beat out Saturday and Sunday as the most trafficked days.
  • The Main Page is most frequently landed on, and the List of American monasteries is number two, but Harold of England beats out John Chrysostom for third place.

From Special:Statistics

As of this moment, there are 4,631 total pages in the database. This includes "talk" pages, pages about OrthodoxWiki, minimal "stub" pages, redirects, and others that probably don't qualify as content pages. Excluding those, there are 1,164 pages that are probably legitimate content pages.

There have been a total of 505,495 page views, and 17,464 page edits since the wiki was setup. That comes to 3.77 average edits per page, and 28.94 views per edit.

There are 475 registered users, of which 11 (2.32%) are administrators.

Feb-April 2005 Updates

With the spike in content over the past month, OrthodoxWiki has experienced a marked rise in visitors from various search engines, especially Google. Some of the more interesting search queries can be found at OrthodoxWiki:Keyphrases. At this point, we're also averaging well over 1500 unqiue visits a month, from at least 50 countries around the world including every continent except Antarctica. As of early February, the top five countries are: the U.S., Austrailia, the Russian Federation, Greece, and Great Britain. Stats for the wiki itself are available at here.

  • As of March 26th, it looks like we are averaging 200 unique visits a day, which is about 6000 a month. That's a great increase! We're up to 455 articles now.
  • As of April 23rd, we're averaging about 300 visits a day.
