Nikiforos (Dedousis) of Lefkas

His Eminence Nikiforos (Dedousis) of Lefkas and Ithaca was the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Lefkas and Ithaca under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. The metropolis is located among the Ionian islands in the Ionian Sea off the western coast of Greece. Metr. Nikiforos served as metropolitan of the metropolis from 1968 to 2008.

Life

Metr. Nikiforos (Dedousis) was born in 1918 in the city of Kalamata on the Peloponnese peninsula of southern Greece. After an education in theology and graduation from the School of Theology of the University of Athens, he entered the Holy Orders and was ordained a deacon in 1947. A year later, in 1948, he was ordained a priest.

Fr. Nikiforos was elected to the episcopate in 1968 by the Synod of Bishops of the Church of Greece]]. His consecration as Metropolitan of Lefkas and Ithaca followed a few days later.

Metr. Nikiforos reposed on January 28, 2008. His funeral was held at the Evangelistrias Cathedral on the island of Lefkada.
