History

Nativity Monastery.JPG

The concept of the monastery was blessed by Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas and the South on November 15, 2000. Organizational difficulties delayed the activation of the monastery until 2009 when Bp Jonah, auxiliary bishop to Abp. Dmitiri, blessed the re-activation of the monastery project in 2009. Later in the year the monastery acquired twelve and a half acres of property with a house in Kemp, Texas.

Renovation of the house began on October 21, 2009. The modifications provided a chapel and a renovated kitchen and living area with two cells and housing facilities. After completion of the renovations, including the chapel, the monastery was blessed by Metr. Jonah on November 28, 2009.

Monastery Life

The Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ Monastery struggles to be faithful to holy tradition and at the same time adapt to the realities of contemporary America. As a new Mission Monastery, our sisters here share several languages and conduct most of the services in English. The aim of our life is simple obedience to the commandments of Christ and the Holy Scriptures. We strive to earn our way by offering you items made at the Monastery.

St. Seraphim of Sarov Retreat Center

StSeraphim Retreat Center.jpg

In order to serve better the Orthodox Communities in Texas and beyond, the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Monastery has entered into an effort to convert the existing barn on the property into the St. Seraphim of Sarov Retreat Center that will allow for the accommodation of more visitors and guests, more retreats and seminars, and a better work shop facility for candle making and other products made here by the nuns.

The first floor of the finished building has a large meeting room, full kitchen with pantry, restrooms, office, workroom, a guest room, full heating and cooling system, new septic system, and grading and landscaping with more parking and equipment storage. An additional phase is completing the second floor, with additional guest rooms and storage and a large covered patio on the east side of the building.

Blessed Xenia Cemetery
