Mozambique is a republic located in the part of southeastern Africa that borders many countries including Tanzania to the north, South Africa and Swaziland to the southwest, Zimbabwe to the west, and Zambia and Malawi to the northwest. The Orthodox Christians in the republic are under the jurisdiction of the Church of Alexandria.

While Christians make up almost half of the population of Mozambique, the Orthodox Christian presence is a very small part of the group as evangelistic missionary work had only begun during the past decades. The Diocese of Mozambique was established by the Patriarchate of Alexandria on November 1, 2006.
