Archbishop Methodios Fouyias (1925 - 2006) was a hierarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He served as the third Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain.

Life

He was born in 1925, in the village Kalivia, in Corinthia. He received his bachelor degree in Theology from the Athens University in 1952 and continued his studies at the Manchester University in Great Britain from where he received a Ph. Degree in Philosophy in 1962.

In 1970, he was appointed Theology professor at the Edinburgh University and in 1984 at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. Methodios Fouyias was ordained deacon in 1947 and priest in 1950.

He served as head priest of the Munich Hellenic Orthodox Community from 1951 to 1954 and head secretary of the Alexandria Patriarchate from 1954 to 1956. From 1958 to 1960 Methodios was head priest at the Addis Ababa Hellenic Orthidox Community in Ethiopia and teacher at the Greek School there.

From 1966 to 1968, he was secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. From 1968 to 1979 he was Metropolitan Bishop of Ethiopia and from 1979 to 1988 Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain.

Methodios has written many books among them: Steps in the course of the youth, Hellenism and Judaism, International dimension of Greek culture.

He died on Friday, July 7, 2006.
