His All-Holiness Matthew II was Patriarch of Constantinople for three periods at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, during part of 1596, from 1598 to 1602, and during part of 1603.
Little is known of Patr. Matthew's life and patriarchates. In 1601, during his second patriarchate, Patr. Matthew moved the seat of the Patriarchate to the former church of the women's monastery of St. George in the Phanar, which has since remained the patriarch's seat as the Cathedral of St. George.
