His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios (Douloufakis) of Gortyna and Arcadia is the ruling hierarch of the Metropolis of Gortyna and Arcady of the Archdiocese of Crete under the jurisdiction of the Church of Constantinople.
Life
The future Metropolitan Makarios was born in 1961 in the village of Dafnes in the prefecture of Heraklion, Crete. He received his basic education, including his initial collegiate studies, in Heraklion, earning a degree in Byzantine Music Studies. He continued his education at the Theological Schools of the Universities of Belgrade and Thessalonica, receiving, in 1985, a degree with "Highest Distinction".
