Holy martyr Saint Laura was born in Cordoba and lived in Muslim Spain during the 9th century. Following the death of her husband she left the world to become a nun at Cuteclara and eventually became abbess. Laura was martyred by Muslims in 864 under the rule of Al-Andalu, who took her captive and scalded her to death by placing her in a vat of boiling lead. She is numbered among the 48 Holy Martyrs of Cordoba. Her feast day is October 19.
