Kyrillos II (Christakis) of Thessaliotis

His Eminence Kyrillos II (Christakis) of Thessaliotis and Fanariofersala is the metropolitan of the Metropolis of Thessaliotis and Fanariofersala under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. The metropolis is located in Thessaly in central Greece. Metr. Kyrillos has been metropolitan since 2005.


Metr. Kyrillos (Chrystakis) was born in 1938 in Kollines, Arcadia in the central part of the Peloponnese peninsula of Greece. He entered the Holy Orders when he was ordained deacon in 1959. He studied at the School of Theology of the University of Athens, graduating in 1969, the year he was also ordained a priest. After graduating, Fr. Kyrillos served as a missionary priest in East Africa and the Far East. In 1998, Fr. Kyrillos was elected to theepiscopate and consecrated on October 18 as the Metropolitan of Kythira .

Following the resignation on March 1, 2005[1] of Metropolitan Theoklitos (Koumarianos), who had been the Metropolitan of Thessaliotida, Metr. Kyrillos was elected to succeed him in June 2005 by a special meeting of the Synod of Bishops of the Church of Greece.
