Bishop Kallistos immigrated to the United States of America in 1905 to become the priest at the parish of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Pueblo, Colorado, where he served until 1915. At that time he was assigned as priest of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in San Francisco.
On August 7, 1927, Fr. Kallistos was consecrated Bishop of San Francisco with his see at St. Sophia Cathedral in San Francisco. Prior to his becoming bishop of San Francisco, his predecessor, as Locum tenens, was Bishop Philaret of Chicago. The depression of the early 1930s hit the St. Sophia community very hard, causing the community to declare bankruptcy and lose their church. As the parish could no longer support him as bishop, Bp. Kallistos moved his office to the larger Greek population in Chicago.
He continued to serve as Bishop of San Francisco until he died in november 1940.
