V. Rev. Dr. Josiah Trenham is an archpriest in the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America (Diocese of Los Angeles and the West).

Biography

Fr. Josiah Trenham was born on October 6, 1967, in Glendale, California, to Noble and Leigh Trenham. He was raised at Glendale Presbyterian Church until the family moved to Pasadena, where they were members of Pasadena Covenant Church.

In 1985 he graduated from Flintridge Preparatory School (in La Canada-Flintridge). In 1988 he married Catherine Christy (with whom he now has ten children), and in 1989 he graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, with a B.A. in social science/history. His senior thesis was on Rev. Jonathan Edwards, the famous American theologian and revivalist. He was licensed as a minster by the Presbyterian Church in America and later became an ordained clergyman of the Reformed Episcopal Church.

In 1992, he graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary in Escondido, California, with an M.Div. He also studied at Reformed Theological Seminary (Jackson, Mississippi and Orlando, Florida) under Reformed theologians Drs. R.C. Sproul, John Gerstner, John Frame.

He was received into the Orthodox Church, and ordained to the holy priesthood in 1993 by Bishop Basil. He was the assistant pastor at St. Athanasius Orthodox Christian Church, Santa Barbara, California, from 1994-1996, and taught religion at Bishop Diego Garcia Catholic High School in Santa Barbara. In 1997, he was teh resident priest at St. Innocent Orthodox Orphanage in Rosarito, Mexico, living there with his family.

He has served as pastor of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Riverside, California, since 1998, receiving his elevation to archpriest by Bishop Joseph in 2003.

Fr. Josiah graduated from the University of Durham, England, in 2004, with Ph.D. in theology. He studied under Fr. Andrew Louth, professor of patristics, and his dissertation, Marriage and Virginity according to St. John Chrysostom was published by St. Herman Press as Terrestrial Angels: Marriage and Virginity according to St. John Chrysostom, with a popularization and expansion planned under God's Gifts: Marriage, Monasticism and Sexuality according to the Patristic Tradition.

Fr. Josiah is the founder and director of Patristic Nectar Publications, a company dedicated to "nourishing the spiritually thirsty with the sweet teachings of the Holy Fathers" in quality audio recordings of both patristic works and recordings of lectures and homilies available in direct download formats. Fr. Josiah's weekly homilies and additional theological reflections are published weekly and listened to by thousands all over the globe on The Arena podcast on Ancient Faith Radio.

Fr. Josiah serves as an instructor in and on the Board of Advisors of the Saints Cyril & Athanasius of Alexandria Institute for Orthodox Studies in San Francisco. He is an adjunct professor of theology at St. Katherine College in Encinitas, California (2010-present), and was an Adjunct Professor of History at California Baptist University (2003-2010). He is a member of the Orthodox Theological Society of America, and participates in yearly academic forums and symposia. Since 2004 he has served on the Mayoral Environmental Committee (GAP) of the City of Riverside. Fr. Josiah has also served as a member of the Secretariat of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops in the United States since its inception in May 2010.

Fr. Josiah's books and articles have been published by St. Herman Press, New Rome Press, Zoe Press, St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Quarterly, Logos: A Journal of Eastern Christian Studies, The Journal of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, CIVA: The Journal of Christians in the Visual Arts, Divine Ascent, The Word Magazine, OrthodoxyToday.org, American Orthodox Institute, Sourozh, Pemptousia.com (Vatopaidi Monastery), and Eastern Churches Review. Fr. Josiah has been interviewed by Fox News, Voice of Russia Radio (VR), Russian Television (RT), Ancient Faith Radio, Culture Shocks: The Radio Show of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and numerous local news outlets including: ABC, NBC, KTLA, 590 AM talk radio. Fr. Josiah has conducted interviews for his own podcast with numerous religious leaders of Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant traditions including Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco; Metropolitan Kallistos (Ware) of Oxford, England; Pastor Jim Garlow of Skyline Church, San Diego; and Prof. Wesley Hill of Trinity Seminary, Pennsylvania.

Fr. Josiah has conducted numerous diocesan, parish, and clergy retreats and seminars for every Orthodox Christian jurisdiction in America and in Canada. He has also spoken at numerous colleges and universities including Westmont College, St. Katherine College, Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, St. Paul University, California Baptist University, San Jacinto Community College.
