Ioannis of Langada

His Eminence Ioannis of Langada is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Langada under the administration of the Church of Greece. The Metropolis of Langada is a metropolis in the New Lands of Greece, under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. [1]. He has served as the ruling hierarch of the metropolis since 2010.

Life

Metr. Ioannis was born in Thessalonica, Greece in 1958. He graduated from the ecclesiastical Pedagogical Academy of Thessalonica in 1979 and the Department of Pastoral and Social Theology of the Aristotle University of Thessalonica in 1982.

In 1982, he was ordained a deacon of the Metropolis of Thessalonica and assigned to head the Office for Youth of the Metropolis. He also participated in the work of the Youth Court of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. In 1983, Dcn. Ioannis was ordained priest by Metropolitan Panteleimon (Chrysofakis) of Thessalonica|Panteleimon]] and was assigned as dean the Church of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, a position he held until 1994. Also in 1983, Father Ioannis was raised to the dignity of archimandrite and served at the Monastery of St. Theodora of Thessalonica of which he was appointed abbot in 1994. At that time he also became dean of the Church of St. Demetrius and assume the duties of chancellor of the Metropolis of Thessalonica.

As chancellor, Fr. Ioannis was involved in many activities in the metropolis including the Papaphio orphanage, a nursing home, the Higher Ecclesiastical School, the Faculty Council on Byzantine Music of the Metropolis of Thessalonica, and in charitable institutions. He served as director of the Center on Orthodox hagiography and wrote many articles and studies concerning hagiographical subjects. Fr. Ioannis taught, as a visiting professor of Biblical theology and hagiography, at the theological academy in Uzhgorod in Ukraine which awarded him the degree of Doctor of Theology.

Father Ioannis was elected on May 10, 2010 by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece as Metropolitan of Langada. He was [[consecration of a bishop|consecrated[[ bishop on May 16, 2010 by Archbishop Ieronymos II (Liapis) of Athens in the Church of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica.
