Archbishop Hilarion (Kapral) of Sydney, Australia and New Zealand is the ruling bishop of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia.

Timeline

  • 1929 - The Archbishop's parents move from the Western Ukraine to Alberta, Canada.
  • 1948 - Igor Kapral, the youngest child of Alexei and Evfrosinia, is born. Igor, the future Archbishop, has four older brothers and two older sisters.
  • 1969 - Igor enrols in Holy Trinity Seminary.
  • 1972 - Igor graduates from Holy Trinity Seminary and enters Holy Trinity Monastery as a novice.
  • 1974 - Igor is tonsured a rassophor-monk, taking on the name Hilarion, with the patron saint being St Hilarion, metropolitan of Kiev.
  • 1975 - Monk Hilarion ordained a deaconmonk by Archbishop Averky (Taushev). Deacon Hilarion serves as Archbishop Averky's cell attendant.
  • 1976 - Hierodeacon Hilarion ordained a Hieromonk by Bishop Laurus of Manhattan.
Hieromonk Hilarion graduated from Syracuse University with a Masters degree in Slavic Studies and Russian Literature.
  • 1984 - Hieromonk Hilarion, at 36 years of age, was consecrated a bishop by Metropolitan Philaret (Voznesensky) of New York and nine other bishops. Bishop Hilarion begins serving his diocese, overseeing the parishes in Pennsylvania, and was appointed deputy secretary for the Synod of Bishops.
  • 1995 - Bishop Hilarion granted title of Bishop of Washington, retaining his residence in New York.
  • 1996 - Bishop Hilarion transferred to Diocese of Australia and New Zealand and raised to the rank of Archbishop.
  • 2003 - Archbishop Hilarion awarded the honour of wearing a diamond cross on his klobuk.
