In English translations of the Bible, the word heavens can mean sky, or world above earth. For example, in Genesis 1:1, 'God created the heavens and the earth.' However, the word in the singular is used to describe the place where God and angels dwell- cf Genesis 22:15, 'the Lord's angel called out from heaven'.

Some of the most vivid descriptions of heaven are given in the Book of Revelation.
