Epiphanius (Artemis) of Thera

His Eminence Epiphanius (Artemis) of Thera, Amorgos and the Isles is the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Thera, Amorgos, and Nisoi under the jurisdiction of the Church of Greece. He has served as Metropolitan of Thera since 2003.

Life

Michael Artemis was born in 1934 in the village Vroutsi[1] on the Island of Amorgos in the Greek Cyclades. Michael entered the Holy Orders after he had completed his studies in theology in Athens. He was ordained a deacon with the name of Epiphanius in 1958 followed by his ordination to the priesthood in 1964. In 1965, Father Epiphanius was named the abbot of the Monastery of the Panagia Chozoviotissa on Amorgos. As abbot he conducted an extensive restoration of the monastery.

In 2003, Fr. Epiphanius was elected to the episcopate and was consecrated Metropolitan of Thera, Amorgos and the Isles on January 11, 2003.
