His Beautitude Patriarch Elias (born Elias Muawad, الياس معوض; born 1912, Lebanon - June 21, 1979, Damascus) was 163rd Patriarch of Antioch and All the East.
Biography
He ordained deacon in 1932.
He graduated from the Theological School of Halki in 1939.
In 1950 he ordained Metropolitan of Verroia Alexandretta (Βερροίας και Αλεξανδρέττας). On 25 September 1970 he was elected Patriarch of Antioch[1].
He passed away in Damascus on June 21, 1979 after suffering a heart attack[2].
