His Eminence Dionysios (Bairaktaris) of Chios was the Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Chios, Psara and Oinouses under the administration of the Church of Greece. The Metropolis of Chios, Psara and Oinouses is a metropolis in the New Lands of Greece, under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. [1]. He served as the ruling hierarch of the metropolis from 1979 to 2011.

Life

Metr. Dionysios (Bairaktaris) was born, near Athens, on the island of Euboea in Greece in 1927. He studied theology at the University of Athens from which he graduated in 1956. He was ordained a deacon on March 19, 1952 and served as the Archdeacon of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens until his ordination as a presbyter on November 20, 1960. He served as a military priest in the Greek Navy from 1960 until 1978.

Father Dionysios was elected to the episcopate on November 6 1979 and consecrated Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Chios, Psara and Oinouses on November 11, 1979. He reposed on July 17, 2011.
