The Holy Diocese of Goma is an diocese under the Archdiocese of Kinshasa of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. Its territory includes the parishes and missions located in the Kivus of Eastern Congo.

History

The recent history of Goma has been dominated by the volcano and the Rwandan genocide of 1994, which in turn fuelled the First and Second Congo Wars. The city was captured by the revolutionary during the rebellion of 2012–2013, but has since been retaken by government forces. Goma is the worst afflicted Congolese region with over twenty years of war, illnesses and a very high death toll, a region full of desperate, helpless, hopeless souls.

The see of Goma was established by a Patriarchal and Synodal Decree of His Beatitude the Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria on November 26, 2018, together with the dioceses of Gulu, Malawi, Toliara, Kisangani and the Archdiocese of Kananga. The diocese is currently headed by the missionary Archmandrite Chariton Musungayi, spiritual son of the blessed Metropolitan Ignatios of Pentapolis (2010–2017).
