In 1957, the Diocese of Detroit and Flint was merged with the Diocese of Chicago that then was renamed the Diocese of Chicago and Detroit.

The first ruling hierarch of the diocese was Archbishop Gregory (Borisevitch). The diocese is currently under the leadership of His Eminence, the Most Reverend [[Alypy (Gramanovich) of Chicago|Archbishop Alypy (Gemanovich)]].  He succeeded to the position of ruling [[bishop]] in 1987 after the repose of Abp. Seraphim.
