The Convent of St. Thekla is a monastic community for women located in Glenville, Pennsylvania under the jurisdiction of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. Founded in July, 2009, it is the first Antiochian convent established in North America.
History
The Convent of St. Thekla was founded in July of 2009 by the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America in July, 2009 by Metropolitan Philip (Saliba). The convent first existed on the grounds of Antiochian Village until 2013, when a 51-acre property was purchased in Glenville, Pennsylvania. The property originally had a four-bedroom house, barn, and three-car vehicle on the premisis. A church on the property was built and dedicated to St. John Chrysostom.
In the beginning, a nun by the name of Mother Alexandra was the acting abbess of the convent. In 2013, Mother Eisodia (Asquith) became acting abbess. Since late 2013, announcements from the convent have come from a Mother Justina.
