Through it, the penitent receives the divine forgiveness of Christ for any [[sin|sins]] that are confessed. Confession is made to a confessor (Greek πνευματικός, ''pnevmatikos''; Russian духовник, ''dukhovnik''), usually a parish priest or monastic. Confession can be individual or general.
