Arsenius (Kardamakis) of Austria

His Eminence Arsenius (Kardamakis) of Austria is the third Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe under the jurisdiction of the Church of Constantinople. He has been the metropolitan since 2011.

Life

Metr. Arsenius was born on October 31, 1973 in Heraklion, Crete. He is a graduate of the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Athens, Greece before continuing his studies in theology at the Theological School of the University of Athens. After his graduation he also studied Catholic theology at the Marc Bloch University, now the University of Strasbourg, in Strasbourg, France where he completed his doctorate.

He was tonsured a monk at the Monastery of St. George on the island of Crete. After his ordination into the Holy Orders, he was chancellor of the Metropolis of France. On November 3, 2011, Mnk. Arsenius was elected the Metropolitan of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He was consecrated and enthroned at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Vienna, Austria on December 4, 2011.
