The Diocese of Botswana was established by Patriarchal and Synodal decree on October 7, 2010. Prior to the formation of the Diocese of Botswana, the territory of the diocese was part of the Archdiocese of Zimbabwe. His Grace, Gennadios, who had been elected earlier, was formally enthroned Bishop of Botswana on June 2, 2012 as the first ruling bishop of the diocese.[1]

Communities of the diocese include: Church of St. Nicholas (including the chapels of St. Parthenios Bishop of Lampsakos and St. Peter Archbishop of Alexandria) in Gaborone.
