Alypius of Byzantium

Revision as of 19:45, February 24, 2012 by Angellight 888 (talk | contribs) (cat.)

Alypius of Olympius (Greek: Αλύπιος or Ολύμπιος) was the bishop of Byzantium during the second half of the second century A.D. The date when he became the bishop of Byzantium is not known for certain, but is most likely somewhere between 166 and 197. Additionally, the length of his term is not known, but it is believed to have been three years - from 166 to169. Given this uncertainty, the most likely opinion, accepted by Manuel Gedeon and Chrysostomos Papadopoulos, is that he was the bishop of Byzantium from 166 until 169. He succeeded Laurence and his successor was Pertinax.
