The our father among the saints Alexander of Rome (bishop) was the third in succession after the Apostle Peter as bishop of Rome, probably during the years 105 to 115. His life is largely legendary. Apparently elected bishop as a twenty year old, his identification as bishop of Rome is based upon various documents of questionable accuracy written in the centuries after his repose. He may have been a martyr. He is commemorated on March 16.
