Chrysostomos (Anagnostopoulos) of Rodostolou
His Grace, Bishop Chrysostomos (Anagnostopoulos) of Rodostolou is a retired bishop of the Church of Constantinople. He currently resides at Mount Athos and is the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch at the Holy Mountain.
Life
In 1933, His Grace was born Panagiotis Anagnostopoulos, the son of Nicholas and Stavroula Anagnostopoulos, in Serres in Macedonian Greece. He entered a monastic life at Mount Athos when he was tonsured a monk in 1950, with the name Chrysostomos, and attended the Athonias Ecclesiastical Academy in Karyes. After he graduated from the Athonias Academy, Chrysostomos served as the secretary of the Holy Community of Mount Athos. From 1958 to 1962, the Mnk. Chrysostomos continued his studies in theology at the Theological School of Halki.
In 1960, he was ordained deacon at the Holy Monastery of Great Lavra by Metropolitan Nathanael of Militoupolis who also, in 1965, ordained him priest. Father Chrysostomos served as a teacher at the Athonias Academy from 1963 to 1967 and was then promoted to principal of the academy by the Ecumenical Patriarchate, a position he served in until 1988.
In 1978, he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate as titular Bishop of Rodostolou and the representative of the Ecumenical Patriarch with his residence at Mount Athos.
