St. Sabbas Orthodox Monastery, located in Harper Woods, Michigan, is a monastery for men that follows the patristic Julian calendar and Russian typikon. The monastery was founded in 1999 as a center for liturgical arts in conjunction with traditional monastic standards.
The monastery is situated on an approximately six acres estate that includes the monastery Katholiconhttp://www.stsabbas.org/church.html, the libraryhttp://www.stsabbas.org/library.html of over 6,000 books, the abbot's quarters, the metropolitan's Archpastoral apartment, the trapeza, gift shop, candle shop, and bakery. Ground will soon be broken for the artisans' studios.
The monastery is surrounded by gardenshttp://www.stsabbas.org/gardens.html, fountains, and mosaic shrines, very much in the style of the ancient monasteries of Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, and Romania.
